We Support the Ferndale Parking Deck

We, the undersigned, being residents of Ferndale and the surrounding area, customers and patrons of Downtown Ferndale businesses, or business owners in Downtown Ferndale, believe the time is now to expand parking.

We trust that the city has done their due diligence over the past two years since the creation of the Ferndale Parking Committee was formed to evaluate the options available, and that we don't need to waste any more time with referendums.

We believe that Parking-only decks which create dead space would detract from the charm and be a poorer fiscal choice compared to Mixed Use decks which integrate ground-level retail and commercial space.

We know that adding commercial office space and new retail space will help drive economic development and benefit the existing businesses in our downtown.

We understand that the higher maintenance costs associated with precast decks makes them a fiscally irresponsible choice in the long term compared to a poured-on-site structure.

We expect our city's elected officials to make sure that any structure fits the aesthetic desires and environmental concerns of our town.

We hope that the retail and commercial space will be designed and priced to be attractive to small businesses and entrepreneurs, while helping to prevent the skyrocketing commercial rents that have happened to other nearby communities that were unable to accommodate the demand for space.

Most of all, we hope that this process can begin and conclude as quickly as possible, so that Ferndale's long dearth of parking can be a distant memory.
 
We will present the petition signatures to Ferndale City Council at the April 10th, 2017 City Council meeting.
